VNPA Contest Judging This Sunday May 31st!

The judging on the annual VNPA photo contest will happen this Sunday. We will post results on the blog as they come in. Here are your judges for this years contest.

.DanGross

Dan Gross has been working as a photojournalist for 30 years and involved in photography for 50 years. The past 27 years have been spent working for The Gazette, a large group of community newspapers covering seven counties around Washington, D.C. His education includes a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from the University of Arizona. Dan has won awards for still photography and video and his work is in the collection of the Santa Barbara Museum of Art.
KERES

Preston Keres was born and raised in Davenport, Iowa, where he and his younger brother were justifiably whooped by a saint of a mother, Margaret Brodale, who still calls Davenport home. In 1991, he left that wonderful home and enlisted in the United States Navy to serve his country for what would be twelve rewarding years. He made his foray into journalism in 1996, spending his last seven years in uniform writing and photographing the Sailor’s story. The Navy accepted to Syracuse University, to attend the Military Photojournalism Program, where he graduated in 2000 with honors. After school, this Navy Journalist reported for what would be his final tour of duty at the Navy’s flagship publication, “All Hands” magazine. There, his work managed to earn him the distinction of the Military Photographer of the Year in 2001 and 2002. In 2003, Preston left the Navy to become a staff photographer at The Washington Post. Currently, Preston serves as a Content Manager for the Army’s flagship website, Army.mil, and is able to pursue his passion sharing the military story to the vast audiences around the world.
