Feature 2nd Place Bill Tiernan/Virginian-Pilot

Zinn Scalin,3, of Richmond dances in front of a sculpture created by artists Marissa DiGirolamo and Kelsie McNair of Norfolk titled Flower Power, a sculpture of a hand gun made of wire and rose blooms, for an art exhibit at Work Release on Granby St. titled Under The Gun. On Saturday, Jan.14, 2017 it was the background for a gathering of community activists, faith leaders and Norfolk Police to talk and build trust. Zinn’s father Noah Scalin was one of the artists exhibited in the show. Zinn, dressed as Clara from the Nutcracker, came to the brunch with her mom, Jessica and dad. Her mom said she doesn’t take dance lessons but they dance around at their home in Richmond.
